I started Dig and Be Dug in waning of the nineties. At the time I was perhaps alone in loving all of the spam emails I got from my friends promoting their shows. I wanted to forward the info to others, and encouraged people to send me their stuff and things they recommended…I wanted to socially network before there was a word for it. Then I sent out a weekly mailing of these listings combined with my own projects, plus things I thought seemed interesting from looking at newspapers and magazines. Then I started started posting on a web page.

I let it fall down a few times when I got really busy with other things but it has always been a labor of love that reminds me why I am here in NY, to dig, not just be dug. Sometimes you get so busy with your own stuff, so focused, that it’s easy to crossover into single-mindedness. You do your own thing and forget everything else that’s going on. And sometimes you also forget to let the world know when you are ready to share!

Social networking took over and for awhile it seemed like it was a good thing, that people were going to be able to promote themselves and share things they dug, much more easily. But now, for a host of reasons, I think there might be a need for a moderated listing by my friends that doesn’t require you to sign up for a corporate site. Back to basics.

If you would like to post things here, just let me know. I will probably like what you’re digging and would love your help updating this. There will be a calendar and also short commentaries or reviews.
